I think the most important aspect of therapy is the relationship of trust between the therapist and client.

Without that trust and support, it’s impossible to create a safe space with someone, especially a stranger you’ve never met before, to explore, open up, and grow. I’ve worked with people who have never spoken to a therapist before, people who have been in and out of therapy their whole lives, and everyone in between. Of all the goals I keep in mind when working with someone new, perhaps the most important to me is to make sure you feel comfortable with me.

I am genuine and warm, and approach my practice with an empathic, compassionate, and non-judgmental perspective. In addition, my therapeutic approach is anti-racist, anti-oppressive, culturally-informed, and is rooted in a social justice framework. I know that our intersecting identities influence every aspect of our lives and our experiences, and creating a space where you are welcomed to speak candidly and openly is intrinsic to the way I practice.

While I use a mix of therapeutic modalities in my work, I believe that it is important to draw from treatments and techniques that have been carefully researched and found effective.  I have post-graduate training in the evidence-based practices of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, behavioral activation, and problem solving treatment. I am also interested in attachment theory, psychodynamic, emotionally focused couple’s therapy (EFT), and family systems frameworks, all of which I practice through a strengths-based clinical perspective and trauma-informed lens. I pull from each of these domains and other interventions to create a therapy experience that is individually tailored to the needs of each person I work with.

I respect each person’s interest or decision to consider the benefits of psychotropic medications. For those who are interested, I have had extensive exposure to and training in psychotropic medication management. While I cannot prescribe medication, I am comfortable and competent in consulting with psychiatrists and other medication providers to provide psychotropic medication recommendations, and I am happy to help facilitate connections and referrals to relevant providers.
